Survivor Emerges in Air India Crash as Investigators Uncover Early Findings
A devastating aviation tragedy unfolded as an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating Flight 171 from Ahmedabad to London, crashed shortly after takeoff, killing over 200 people. Among the 242 passengers and crew on board, at least one survivor—a 40-year-old British-Indian man—was miraculously pulled from the wreckage, making him the sole known survivor of the disaster. The aircraft issued a mayday call before descending rapidly and crashing into a residential hostel attached to B.J. Medical College, where it also claimed the lives of at least five medical students and injured dozens more. Emergency responders, including fire services, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and military personnel, arrived swiftly to conduct rescue and recovery operations. This marks the first fatal crash involving a Boeing 787 since the aircraft entered service in 2011. Investigators from India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, along with teams from the UK, U.S., Boeing, and GE, are now probing the incident, focusing on the aircraft’s flight behavior during climb-out and possible mechanical or human errors. As recovery continues and families mourn, global aviation authorities watch closely, given the potential implications for Dreamliner safety standards worldwide.
